THE REVENUE department of Faridkot has got four acres of land belonging to rape convict Nishan Singh auctioned for Rs 91 lakhs as Rs 90 lakh compensation has to be given to rape victim and her family as per the Punjab and Haryana High Court orders.

Despite Nishan Singh being in jail, no bidder came forward, hence Red Cross Department came as the only bidder, depositing Rs 25 lakhs as advance amount, with the rest to be deposited within 3 days, revealed information.

On August 31, Punjab and Haryana High Court had passed a decision that Rs 90 lakhs compensation should be given to Faridkot rape victim and her family and the same can be done by auctioning convict Nishan Singh’s properties. Auction had to be done by November 29 as per High Court orders.

Though October 29 was kept as the day of auction earlier, but it had to be postponed as revenue department’s concerned officer had gone on leave on that day. Besides, Nishan Singh and his mother Navjot Kaur had challenged the HC decision in Supreme Court, but so far the case has not come for hearing in SC. Meanmhile as per HC orders, Rs 50 lakh has to be given to the minor girl while Rs 20 lakh each to both parents.

It needs to be mentioned that on September 24, 2012 Nishan Singh along with his friends had abducted a minor girl of Faridkot. Both were traced to Goa a month later and the minor girl was pregnant at that time. He was sentenced to double life imprisonment and his mother Navjot Kaur and uncle Dimpy Samra were sentenced seven years each imprisonment in May 2013.

Before abducting minor girl, there were 21 more cases pending against Nishan Singh. The minor girl had been kidnapped in June 2012 but returned home after a few days. She was kidnapped again in September. Presently, the girl has been sent out of the country by her family, revealed sources. Faridkot minor rape victim sangrash committee had taken up the case after minor girl’s abduction in September 2012 and even a bundh was also observed in Faridkot. Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Prashar, confirming today’s auction, said that the report about the auction will be submitted to the High Court within the stipulated time period.
