I have proof to nail him
The law student who has accused former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand of sexual harassment alleged on Monday that she was raped and physically exploited by the BJP leader for one year.
“Swami Chinmayanand raped me and exploited me physically for one year. I have sufficient evidence to prove him guilty, and all of them will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team at the right time. I had to post a video just for my family’s and my own safety, else Chinmayanand would have got us killed,” the LLM student, her face covered with a black scarf, said at a press conference.
Claiming that the Shahjahanpur police were not registering the rape case, she broke down and said, “I was hiding and moving around to save my life as we did not get support from the Shahjahanpur administration. I have no trust in UP police, which is why I filed a rape complaint at Lodhi Road police station in New Delhi. A complaint was also submitted at the Karkardooma court in Delhi.”
According to sources, a 12-page complaint lodged by the girl with Delhi police against Chinmayanand had reached SIT chief Naveen Arora through the UP DGP’s office on Sunday. The SIT, however, is still to record her statement before a magistrate under CrPC’s Section 164. Also, her medical examination is pending.
She said, “I don’t have any problem if I’m questioned for several hours by the SIT, but it should also arrest the accused. I was offered a job by Chinmayanand when I took LLM admission at Swami Shukdevanand Law College. He is its chairman. I was often forced to stay in the college till late hours due to which I was forced by the college staff to take a room in the hostel.”
It’s extortion, says ex-mantri’s lawyer
Chinmayanand’s lawyer Om Singh denied the charges levelled by the law student. “She is making allegations because we have sufficient evidence against her in the extortion case,” Singh told TOI. He added that his client would appear before SIT whenever he is summoned.
Chinmayanand has destroyed many lives, says student
The LLM student who accused former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand of rape said, “After I started staying in the college hostel, I was sexuallyassaulted on numerous occasions. There are many girls whose lives have been destroyed by Chinmayanand, but I gathered the courage to stand againsthim.”
The SIT chief, Naveen Arora, was not available for comment.
The girl had posted a Facebook video on August 24 alleging that the BJP leader had exploited many girls, including her. After posting the video, she went missing.
On August 25, the Shahjahanpur police, acting on the complaint of Singh, filed an FIR against unidentified persons on charges of extortion and under the Information Technology Act. However, police refused to lodge an FIR on the complaint of the student’s father. Instead, they had allegedly forced her father to remove Chinmayanand’s name from the complaint and file a missing complaint.
Following media reports, the police lodged the FIR under IPC Section 364 (abduction with intent to commit murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Chinmayanand and unidentified persons on August 27. Chinmayanand was never summoned by police though.
On August 30, the student was found in Rajasthan’s Dausa district by Uttar Pradesh police. She was produced before the Supreme Court on the same day. The Supreme Court later ordered an SIT investigation into her allegations.
