Jadavpur University is at arson and violence today. Initially ABVP organised a talk on NRC Bengal and seminar on ‘Governance in post-Independent India’ at JU Campus where the Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo was one of the guest speakers.
The students of JU who were from SFI and AISA started to protest peacefully against ABVP with slogans and placards “ABVP GO BACK” and welcomed him showing black flags. While returning, Babul Supryio refused to leave the campus and got involved in verbal altercation with the students.
The ABVP goons attacked the students of JU and threatened them. There has been harassment, molestation and constant uncouth attack on the students. Babul Supriyo elbowed a girl roughly and slapped two students as caught in the video.
The students in rage blocked his way for few hours. The Governor of the State of Waste Bengal Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar soon reached there and rescued him. The Vice Chancellor was hit by the guards of Babul Supriyo and has been hospitalized. More supporters of BJP soon joined them and entered the premises breaking Gate no 4 which is near Arts Faculty. The gate was set on fire by the outsiders. There have been breaking of glass bottles and acid attacks on the students. Students were threatened and also found loaded guns from the outsiders.
The University properties such as classrooms, library, department labs, union rooms are vandalized by the BJP supporters. Students are stuck inside the campus and are attacked vehemently. The goons are drunk and armed as the students of JU are claiming. The entire University has been ransacked.
Jadavpur University is one of the eminent academic hubs in Bengal. The attack today is not only an attack on JU Students but also an attack on the whole academia.
