Demand wage revision, production affected in seven mines

Jadugora, June 10: Over 4000 workers of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) Monday went on an indefinite strike in support of their demand for wage revision and other benefits pending for the last five years.

Production came to a halt in all the seven mines of UCIL as the workers unanimously decided to take the warpath. The agitation started in the first half of the day at Turamdih Uranium Project where the workers went 600 metres down the mine to sit at dharna and boycott work. Soon, the agitation spread to other UCIL mines in Narwa Pahar and Jadugora.

Sources said the agitation has adversely affected production in the PSU. Uranium ore grinding work was stalled completely today.

Soon after the announcement of strike by workers, the company management pasted a ‘no work, no pay’ notice in its premises. The notice got cold response from the workers who said their demand was justified and long due
