Three days after the station house officer of Uttam Nagar was suspended for allegedly asking a 13-year-old gangrape victim to “show” how she was raped, two constables posted with the 3rd Battalion of the Delhi Police were arrested and dismissed from service for allegedly attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl in Northwest Delhi‘s Mukherjee Nagar area on Saturday evening.
A statement by DCP (Northwest) N Gnana Sambandan said, “The Delhi Police is issuing this press release with a deep sense of regret due to unpardonable criminal acts of two of its personnel. They have been dismissed on Sunday for attempting to sexually assault an underprivileged girl in the Mukherjee Nagar police station area.”
The statement further said that “all steps are being taken to ensure that the case will be chargesheeted within a week”.
“Constables Amit Tomar and Gurjinder Singh have been dismissed to send a strong signal that harshest measures will be taken even against police personnel if found guilty of abusing women, children and weaker sections,” the statement said.
