IUFF 2014 reaches Bangalore

 

The on- going second edition of International Travelling Uranium Film festival (IUFF) 2014 now moves to Bangalore as a three day event from 11th April onwards. The festival will be inaugurated at Chokshy Hall of Indian Institute of Science and will stay there for first two days. On the last day the festival is scheduled to be conducted at Venkitappa Art Gallery located at Kasthurba road. Apart from this, pre festival screenings have also been arranged at National College Auditorium, Basavanagudi, Bangalore.

 

The major attraction of IUFF here is a photo exhibition on the lives of people living around uranium mines in Jharkhand by a community boy from Jadugoda- Ashish Birulee.

 

The festival will also have a panel discussion with experts on issues revolving around mining, radioactivity and environment on the last day, i.e. 13th April.

 

Previously, IUFF travelled to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Manipal where it was well received by the people. It saw presence of great personalities who whole heartedly praised the effort. To name a few, in Hyderabad chief speaker of the event included actor and environmentalist Amala Akkineni, who called for more awareness to deal with the menace of radioactivity from uranium. Sr Alphonsa Vattoly, Principal, St Francis College for Women was another distinguished guest of the event.

 

The three day film fest which is in its second edition, is a travelling fest that showcases various independent animation films, comedy, fiction, documentaries and so on to elaborate on the deadly effect of nuclear energy. The Uranium Film Festival is an initiative from Rio, Brazil, and has been showcasing international award-winning films on harmful effects of nuclear energy from across the globe. IUFF is scheduled to visit five cities- Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Manipal, Bangalore and Tata Nagar.

 

Explaining about the film fest, documentary maker and India coordinator for festival, Shri Prakash said that the aim was to spread awareness through cinema on issues like uranium mining, nuclear power plants, nuclear waste, atomic bombs, radioactive hazards, etc. “Complex issues are shown in a simple and easily understandable way,” he added.
