In yet another case of honour killing, a 20-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly murdered by her father for marrying against his wishes. The incident happened in Ghatkopar, Mumbai.

A 55-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai on Monday for stabbing his daughter to death. The man, Rajkumar Chaurasiya, was upset with her marriage to a man she was in love with for over four years

The woman’s blood-covered body was recovered by the police on Sunday and was immediately sent for post mortem. Police also initiated a probe in the matter on the same day. The father has been arrested by Mumbai Police.

Police said that the man’s relationship with his daughter had soured when the woman married her long-time lover Brajesh against her father’s wishes.

DCP Akhilesh Singh of Mumbai Police said that the victim, identified as Meenakshi Chaurasia had married Brajesh Chaurasia against her father’s wishes in February. Since then there had been a rift between Meenakshi and her father, Rajkumar.

Meenakshi had twice rejected the grooms selected by her father, and finally eloped with Brajesh and got married in Satna, Madhya Pradesh.

On Saturday evening, the accused father had called Meenakshi on the pretext of giving her money to buy clothes. When Meenakshi came, he intentionally dropped the money on the floor and asked Meenakshi to pick it up. When Meenakshi bent down to pick the money, her father attacked her with a sharp weapon, leading to her death. He then fled the spot.

However, police traced his location by tracking his mobile signal and arrested him.
