Panchayat in Aligarh offered Rs 80,000 as compensation to a minor who was gangraped by four. When the victim’s brother tried to file a police complaint, he was not allowed to step out of the village.

Aligarh: A 14-year-old minor girl was gang-raped by four youth in Aligarh’s Delhi gate area on Wednesday. A panchayat was convened on Friday after the family of girl informed the villagers of the act.  The panchayat shockingly asked the accused to pay Rs 80 thousand as compensation to the survivor & settle the case.

The victim reportedly belonged to the Dalit minority community and does not have her parents alive. The brother of the survivor although refused and approached the police after which 3 of the accused were arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO act.

There, however, was no action against the panchayat members for making a shocking attempt to settle the case by deciding upon a monetary compensation. The four accused, according to TOI were identified as Lalit Kumar (22), Chetan (24), Vikas (24) and Lakhan (30). Chetan has been reported to be still absconding.

The minor had reportedly gone to relieve herself on Wednesday evening when she was abducted by the accused to a desolate spot and brutally gang-raped. She later informed her aunt about the incident, who passed on the information to the minor’s brother on Thursday morning.

The brother of the minor victim gathered support from the villagers and a panchayat was gathered. He, however, did not approve of the decision of the panchayat and when he wanted to reach out to the police station, he wasn’t let to venture out of the village. It was on Saturday, after a  lot of effort, the brother managed to escape the village late at night.
