A public interest writ petition moved in the Delhi High Court on Thursday sought arrest and disqualification of Shiv Sena MPs, who were involved in an alleged incident of force-feeding a fasting Muslim employee at the New Maharashtra Sadan here last week.

The petition, likely to come up for hearing next week, has impleaded Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray as the first respondent, followed by the Maharashtra Resident Commissioner, Union Law & Justice Secretary and Union Home Secretary as the other parties.

Petitioner Maulana Ansar Raza, heading a non-government organisation Gharib Nawaz Foundation, said the group of Shiv Sena MLAs had hurt religious sentiments of Muslims by forcing a catering supervisor, who was fasting for Ramzan, to eat ‘chapatis’ at the New Maharashtra Sadan.

For this “cowardly act”, the petition has sought directions to the Lok Sabha Speaker to initiate the process of disqualification of the 11 MPs and directions to the Election Commission to start procedure for derecognising Shiv Sena.

The petitioner said the respondents should also be directed to immediately arrest the MPs involved in the incident and initiate a CBI inquiry into the matter.
