A 16-year-old rape survivor was allegedly tied up and thrown into the river by her mother and uncle in Jasrana area of Firozabad on Thursday , after they got to know that she was pregnant with the rapist’s child. The girl was swept in the river for 17 km before being rescued by Mainpuri villagers on Friday morning. Her ordeal was, however, far from over, as, on being taken to the police station, she was allegedly not given food or medical aid for over three hours, after which she collapsed. The police then took her to the district hospital in Mainpuri, where she started bleeding and had a miscarriage.
She was referred to Saifai medical college, where her condition is stated to be critical. The girl was reportedly raped during a birthday func tion in Firozabad four months ago. She did not inform anyone about the incident as the ac cused had threatened to kill her if she did. A week ago, she came to know that she is pregnant. Her mother had then tried to get the child aborted.

When this failed, she and the girl’s mater nal uncle had tied up her hands and legs and thrown her into the river on Thurs day afternoon.

Talking to TOI, Kurawali CO Suresh Veer Singh said no one from the girl’s family has turned up yet. Firozabad DM Vijay Ki ran Anand said he has ordered a probe into the matter and the accused will be nabbed soon. He added that action will also be taken against policemen if they are found to have mis treated the girl.
