Narayan Sai, son of Asaram Bapu, was convicted in a rape case by the Surat Court, the quantum of which will be announced on 30 April, news agency ANI reported. Sai was accused of rape by two sisters in Surat. A sessions court in Surat pronounced its judgment on 26 April.

The almost 11-year-old case against Narayan Sai and Asaram Bapu was lodged after the police had recorded statements of the victims.

Among the two sisters, the younger sister has alleged being raped by Narayan Sai after identifying the locations, while the elder sister said that Asaram Bapu has raped her.

The court has produced 53 witnesses against Narayan Sai in the case, prompting him to go underground when the case was registered. He was later arrested in 2013 on the Delhi-Haryana border, two months after the FIR was registered.

Sai has also been accused of trying to bribe jail officials of Rs 13 crore, but has managed to get a bail in the bribery case.
